I bow to his use of a closet, but I
am a bit more dependent on power tools than he is. Recently I moved into an apartment in NJ. I have found there
are four criteria for making a small shop work within the confines of a small space.

ideas about what to look for regarding when it's time to replace it.
I'm a segmented turner and cut almost exclusively exotic hardwoods, so I expect the cutting to be
slow on denser woods like rosewood and ebony.
Any tips? Burning, poor finish, twist???

I Bought a
New Bandsaw

I have been searching for several years for a stick of dynamite. My old bandsaw has been slowly
torturing me and I was planning its demise in a blaze of glory. One stick should be enough.

The problem I encounter most often while doing woodturning is that the finished piece does not reflect the
original design idea. I have found that first using SketchUp to model the concept helps quite a bit
in realizing my ideas much more accurately. Even if you don't have a clear idea of what you want to
turn, you can use the techniques you will learn in this article to explore design variations before
heading out to the shop. Once you have created a model you are happy with, you will see how to create a section-cut of your
model to use as a template when working on the lathe.
