I've not
been able to find a good stainable wood putty. Minwax indicates that their putty is, but it really isn't. It
does fill the nail holes, but I can never seem to get the colors right even when I buy the wax pencils to try
to assist. Normally I use Minwax Provincial Stain on my baseboard, pine doors and trim. Could you please help?
(I'll bet I'm not the only one with this kind of issue.)

When I first discovered that some people just cannot handle
self-employment, it surprised me, for I much prefer being my own boss to the work-a-day grind. But there are a
good number of people who cannot work effectively without the structure of a 9:00 to 5:00, Monday through
Friday job. There is no shame in that; it's just a difference in personalities.

Safety should be the prime consideration in any shop. The cutting of
small parts is always of great concern because of the close proximity of the hands to the saw blade. I tried
cutting parts on the radial arm saw using auxiliary devices such as wood blocks to push against the fence to
hold the piece in place. While this solved the problem of keeping my hands away from blade, it did not fully
address positioning the piece for an accurate cut. What I needed was a safe way to hold the piece at a precise
length to make a quick and efficient cut. I could see no solution on the radial arm, so I went to the tablesaw
sled idea.

USING WOOD STRIPPERS
One of the things
we strive to do in the antique restoration business is to do our best to save the original finish whenever and
wherever possible. This not only helps to maintain the value, but the aesthetics of the piece as well.
However, when the finish is no longer viable, which is to say that the finish no longer offers any protection
or is damaged in a way that takes away from the aesthetics of the piece, the finish has to be removed. This
can be accomplished mechanically with scrapers and sandpaper, or stripped with commercially-available chemical
strippers.
