"Mountain Farmstead" is inspired by the numerous highland farmsteads in the Appalachian and
Allegheny Mountains of the eastern United States. Traveling in the mountain states, farmsteads at
higher elevations can be seen in most every direction. Many of these farmsteads were being
established in the 1700s. Fortunately, many of the buildings and other features of these settlements
have been preserved. I took the photographs used in the composition and design of "Mountain Farmstead"
over a period of several years.
"Mountain Farmstead" was created from Southern Magnolia and by woodburning. The vessel is eight
and a half inches in height by five and a quarter inches in diameter. The finish is hand rubbed fine
finishing lacquer. This work is one in the Farmstead series developed by me.
