Here's My Woodcarving!

I am a professional wood carver specializing in architectural ornamentation, such as scroll keys, capitals, mantel panels and surrounds, brackets, and conference table carvings. All my work is hand carved and created on commission. I do not produce retail stock in advance of an order; therefore, each project is unique.

I have recently nearly completed a large carving commission. The job includes 27 specialty carvings: mantel panels, scroll keys, palm scrolls, as well as other miscellaneous forms. The photo below shows 7 finished panels installed in a mantel in one of the rooms of this French villa located here in Columbus. Some of the carvings are made in a style based on the style of Grinling Gibbons, an English carver from the late 17th century, who is famous for his assemblages of floral carvings. Of course I am not Grinling! So the style is my interpretation. Carved floral images are made separately and applied one on top of the other to a backing to form bouquets that have amazing depth and realism.

Below is a photo of one part of the master bedroom carvings, a triangular pediment in that style, which I am completing for the overmantel and mantel surround for the master bedroom in this same villa.
