A Two Minute Safety Tip
Here's a quick safety two minute drill: Ask yourself three basic questions when you are
trying a new technique in the shop.
1. Best case scenario: What does “success” look like?
Determine what it is you are trying to do, ensure you are really prepared to do it, and
verify your tools/workspace are set up to achieve best results.
2. Worst case scenario: What’s the worst thing that could happen?
Look around for tripping hazards, clutter or other housekeeping concerns that might impede
successful results. Determine what hazards might exist (such as upper saw guard removed, safety
glasses/shield not clean, long sleeves) and take action or precautions to counter the threat.
3. Is it safe?
Check warning labels (i.e., required ventilation) and make sure you have the appropriate
safety equipment, i.e. fire extinguisher or a first aid kit.
