Here's Our Workshop!
by Ninika and Richard Gordon
Madison, VA
This is Richard and Ninika Gordon's timber framed woodworking shop in Wolftown Virginia. We built the
shop in 1999, and have been building fine, handmade furniture since 1978.
Richard has been making furniture professionally for 38 years. Ninika and Richard started Phineas
Rose Wood Joinery in 1978 and have been building our own original designs to order ever since.
We started out using hand tools because they were affordable and we didn't want to borrow to
equip a shop. It was ten years before we put in a small machine shop and incorporated power tools
into our work. Surprisingly there were few things other than milling parts that they were better at
than the hand method, so we still do 90% of the work with hand tools at a traditional German bench
of our design. Don't get us wrong, we love our power tools but being able to do everything by hand
as well, we have more versatility in the design and execution of the joinery.
Our timber framed workshop and showroom is located in Wolftown VA and is open by appointment.
