Traditional Woodworking
with Roy Underhill
Roy Underhill, star of the long-running
Woodwright's Shop
TV series, will be
demonstrating traditional methods of working wood for everyone in attendance
at Highland's big 35th birthday celebration. The main attraction will be Roy
making shavings and magic using what he calls his carbon-neutral, alcohol-powered
reciprocating lathe for bowl and spindle turning. You may get a chance to try it
yourself! See how to start with a tree and use traditional tools to make
mechanical marvels of maple and persimmon! Don't miss this opportunity to witness
woodworking beyond the Norm!

CLASS: How to Make a Standing Desk
taught by Roy Underhill
Join Roy Underhill, host of the PBS series "The Woodwright's Shop" for a day of jocular joinery
that could save your life! They tell us that sitting at a desk all day is a killer. The answer?
Stand at your standing desk! In this day-long adventure, Roy will show how to build a yellow pine
Pennsylvania schoolmaster's desk that reveals multiple mysteries of the joiner's trade.
You'll learn traditional table-frame construction, dovetailing, moulding-making, as well
as the elusive miter-ended-breadboard-bracket-clamped desktop! So have a seat in hand tool
heaven as Roy stands and delivers his Schoolmaster's Desk. Plans and partial participation
provided. Guaranteed to be a woodworking class you'll never forget. Class size is limited,
so please register early to avoid disappointment.
