Here's My Workshop!

My shop is 10 feet wide by 20 feet long and it is built as an addition to the back of my garage. I built it at the insistence of my wife, shortly after I retired from Grumman Aerospace, where I worked as an engineer for 31 years. I had the shell built by a local contractor, and then completed the entire inside, including walls, insulation, electrical power wiring and so forth by myself. I have to admit, when you're as crowded as I am, it behooves you to be a little creative in using the space that you DO have.

I wanted to give you a feel for the "luxury" that I have fun in. By my garage door there is a heater (kerosene jet engine style) that I have poking through a cut-out in the door that enables my Kingdom to be a year-round place, along with the A/C I have in the window. I tell ya - it's just plain luxury with a capital L! Eat your heart out! (Just kidding, of course).

Scrollwork is my main love. I have two Excalibur scroll saws among my treasures that occupy the majority of my work time. My crowning achievement is the Apostle Cathedral that is shown below. It is made entirely of red oak and took me 3 1/2 months to complete, and I am rather proud of that.

Below was a plaque for a very close friend of mine who is a model train hobbyist and completely into the old style steam engines, similar to the one shown here. This was all made with 1/4" red oak and finished with Danish oil, backed with black felt board before framing.
