Ask the Staff
Question:
Is it possible to easily obtain wood used in Windsor chairs after a person takes the workshop?
Thanks,
Rick
Answer:
Rick,
Watch this
video
.
It has a wealth of information on what is involved in constructing a traditional Windsor chair - including the wood used.
You do not use kiln-dried lumber in a Windsor chair and the video will explain why. While appropriate wood can be found (and the instructor can list some of his personal sources), one must dig a bit deeper than your standard lumber yard to find the wood needed to build a Windsor chair in a manner that will allow it to be as strong as possible.
