Safety Tip: Adjusting the Bandsaw Height

A common habit with band saws is to raise the adjustable upper guide block and bearing assembly for more height while the machine is still running. I've seen my friends do it, even saw a bandsaw instructor do it. I noticed myself doing that today while working quickly and had a few moments thought on the practice. I really think I can do that and not get cut, but one slip out of 100 times might mean a trip to the emergency room. That's a lot of time and a lot of money that I don't want to spend. Not to mention the possibility of serious injury to tendons, ligaments and bones.

From now on, I'll shut the machine off to adjust the height.
