In A Pinch
by Alan Noel
Professional Wood Finisher
Through the years I have picked up many useful tips for the use of everyday items found in the home. Needless to say, most of these I still use today and am sure that if you put
your mind to it, you can think of a few yourself. I welcome any that you may have and will pass whatever you send along to all of you in the future.
-
Ketchup does a good job of cleaning brass hardware
-
Vodka or grain alcohol is great for mixing shellac flakes
-
Waterless hand cleanser is a great cleaner for lacquer or varnish finishes
-
Irons are good for swelling out dents with water
-
Finger nail polish works very well for touch ups and comes in colors with an applicator
-
Vinegar will remove dried yellow, white and hide glue
-
Clothes detergents are also good for cleaning finishes
-
Coffee grinders and blenders are good for grinding shellac and hide glue
