Furniture Touch Up Markers

Touch Up Markers are very handy tools to have around the finishing area
as well as in your touch up kit for onsite use. They come in a variety of
colors and are easy to use.
Highland Woodworking carries the Behlen line
of markers which come in many colors to choose from.
Here are some tips on using them:
-
Test the marker on an area like the back of a leg for color match.
-
Start with the lightest colors first then move on to darker shades.
-
Test the scratch with a damp cloth to see if the scratch darkens. If not, a marker will usually do no good.
-
To use on surface scratches of an existing finish after testing, apply the marker and then wipe the suface immediately with a soft cloth to remove the excess.
-
It is best to use markers early on in the finishing process so they can be "buried" in the finish with a glaze or shading, otherwise they will be glaringly noticeable.
-
If some of the marker is left behind by mistake on a finish, some markers can be reactivated by going over the same areas quickly and wiping them off immediately.
-
Be sure to replace the cap tightly to prevent the markers from drying out.
-
Be sure to test on scrap first and always test colors in natural lighting.
