Putting the New Festool T12+3 Drill to Work

Before I purchased the $525 lithium-ion-powered Festool T12+3 drill, I asked myself "How can I justify
the high cost?" The first answer was that I have several other lithium-powered tools, and despite
early skepticism I have learned they are far superior in terms of battery life and power compared to
the old Ni-Cads. The other reason was that I had already acquired a Festool sliding saw, Festool
jigsaw, Festool router and Festool Domino machine, all of which though very expensive, were very
well engineered.

Spray Finishing
When I first started in the antique restoration business, the only
game in town was to use conventional high
pressure spraying systems that involved an air compressor, pressure
regulator, water extractor, hose and a high pressure spray gun.
In the early nineties, High Volume Low Pressure, or HVLP spray systems like the
Earlex
Spray Station
were introduced into the market. These are self-contained systems
consisting of a turbine unit that supplies heated air and a spray gun. This system is much
more efficient for transferring finishing materials to the workpiece, with the added benefit
of a great deal less overspray and faster drying times.

The son of a cabinetmaker, Terry grew up in a cabinet shop and has been involved in woodworking and
construction almost his entire life. After
high school he studied photography at the Art Institute of Atlanta and the
Ansel Adams School, and worked for 13 years as a professional photographer.
For his next career, Terry enrolled
at Rochester Institute of Technology and studied structural engineering, then spent 6 years building submarines with General Dynamics.
Then it was back into cabinetwork and construction until changes in that marketplace brought him to
Highland Woodworking in 2007.
Besides giving great customer service, Terry takes care of logistics for Highland's weekly woodworking classes and seminars.
He says he likes all kinds of tools, and he looks forward to coming to work everyday, saying it's pretty nice when you enjoy what you do.
One of his specialties is routers and router tables, but he's always happy to share his knowledge of woodworking no matter what the topic.

WOOD SLICER Testimonial
I have a 12" Jet bandsaw that I absolutely hated. It couldn't cut a straight line on a piece of 1/8"
ply. A friend told me to check out your Wood Slicer resawing bandsaw blade. I went to your site to
check it out. At first I kind of choked when I saw the price of the blade. I then read your
testimonials and decided to give one a try (you do guarantee that I will like it).
The first piece
of wood I cut was a chunk of mango. It went well, but then again, it is a softer wood. So I decided
to try a piece of Koa as it is a bit harder... cut like butter. Being the skeptic I am, I decided
to put it to what I considered an extreme test. I have a large chunk of desert ironwood that has
been sitting around for a while (because I just can't cut it). In previous attempts, I could barely
slice a 2" section. The results were not pretty, it took forever and a day to cut, and the dust was
incredible.
I figured what the heck, I am going to make this blade cry, so I put a four inch thick
slab of ironwood on the bandsaw, turned it on and it cut through it without a problem. There was no smoking, no
dust clouds, and the finish on the cut side of the wood was unbelievable. Bottom line, I will
NEVER buy another band saw blade other than this one. It is everything you said it was. Please feel
free to use me as a reference. I would love to be able to help other woodworkers discover this
blade. On a side note... I no longer hate my bandsaw.
