Here's My Woodworking!

A number of years ago I felt the urge to build furniture starting with the simplest pieces and working up to the more difficult. I built a double dresser and chest of drawers with matching night stands made from poplar and painted white. From there I built a queen size platform bed with matching nightstands with underbed storage for our youngest daughter and her husband. This was built from solid oak and I used poplar as the secondary wood. I then built a DVD storage cabinet using solid oak for our oldest daughter and husband. I then proceeded to build a dower chest made from poplar, with hand cut dovetails and painted and stenciled. I donated the chest to a local charity auction. In 2011, I started to remodel our home kitchen which took eight months to complete.
I am currently working on a pair of solid oak doors which will replace our sliding patio door. In the future I will be building a kitchen island to match the remodeled kitchen and also a kitchen island for our youngest daughter and her family.
My inspiration for my woodworking comes from working in the industry for many years in various capacities. Two individuals especially (Dave and Lee) gave me great insights in regards to working with hand tools versus power tools. I thank God I have been given the knowledge to do what I enjoy.
