I am an amateur, "self taught" carver. I like creating my own versions of famous sculptures.
My Dad was a woodworker and he started me off with making bird houses when I was just a kid. I've been at it ever since. I'm now age 75 and live in Memphis, TN. I've gone through many phases: furniture making, turning, musical instrument making (dulcimer and three violins), and now carving. All of it self-taught from reading books and watching a few videos. The carving has gone from simple animals to Native American faces to Nativity scenes and finally some renditions of famous sculptures, all of which you can see examples of below and my
last carving column in the May 2012 issue of Wood News Online
.
