In this one day seminar, you will observe Kreg McMahon, owner of Kreg’s Custom Carpentry, construct a
custom built-in right onto a wall, in the same manner as you would do in your own home. Kreg will
cover all the steps including design & planning, sheet good processing, joinery methods, adjustable
shelf holes, design detail enhancements like trim fluting, and face frame cabinet door construction.

When I was an art student, just about everyone spent their time trying to make unique or original
work. A worthy goal, but dangerous in the hands of a bunch of twenty year olds. As I learned the
craft of woodworking, this attitude seeped in. I was sure that if I learned the tools and materials
that something new would emerge. And as my interest turned to making chairs, the absolute last thing
on my mind was making some sort of "reproduction".

Join us as Master Chairmaker Peter Galbert returns to Atlanta this fall for a 7 day hands-on
class for building your own Continuous Arm Windsor Chair. The Continuous Arm is an icon of American
furniture, and was an innovation in the development of the Windsor style and technology. This class
covers all the building action, from tree to completed chair. Students will split parts from a log,
shave them, bend them and join them into their hand carved seat.
Peter will cover topics including sharpening, wood technology and design, all which will enhance
your ability to go forth and make chairs at home.

A Woodworking Shop in Afghanistan
As we celebrate our freedom and independence here in America on the 4th of July, here's a salute to
the brave men and women in our Armed Forces who are serving our country while deployed in
Afghanistan, Iraq and elsewhere. A recent letter from Army soldier Roscoe (Randy) Harris included a
few photos of the woodworking shop that he and fellow soldiers built on their base in Kandahar,
Afghanistan.

Building A Cradle with the Late James Grisham

Columbus, GA
I received a call for help from a sweet lady named Linda Grisham. Her story was very interesting,
the kind that tugs at your heart and keeps you from forming the word "No" as a response.
Linda explained that her husband James was a woodworker and had built several Maloof style pieces
of sculptured furniture. He'd finished several rockers and was working on a cradle when a drunken
driver hit and killed him during one of his early morning bike rides near Carrolton, Georgia.
Linda asked if I would finish the cradle because their first grand child was due in June. See
what I mean?
