Build a Shaker Style End Table
with Jim Dillon, Oct. 21-23 This simple but elegant Shaker styled table made from ash makes a wonderful accent side table for your living room, bedroom or office. The primary construction techniques you'll learn during the creation of this classic piece are flat panel fabrication, table leg tapering and floating tenon joinery. Although the Shakers did not use floating tenon joinery in their traditional table design, this technique offers a highly efficient method for creating strong, durable joints with no impact on the table's visual appeal. I said does a bear brush his teeth in the woods? Some people he knew took down some walnut trees and were cutting them up into firewood. He got it and brought it to me. Most of them were so big that we could not pick them up, and so instead we just backed his truck up to my gate and slid them off on the walkway. I have been walking around them to get to the shop for about four months, so today I decided it was time to do something with them. I mounted up a Wood Slicer that I'd previously "retired", and it went through those 10 inch diameter sections like gas through a funnel! What a great blade! -Peter |
